4 Tips To Learn From Successful Work From Home Systems
If you are self-employed, chances are you’ve been looking for some work from home systems that would help you boost your bottom line. In many ways working from home has been largely fantasized by people. It makes you think that you can somehow make easy money while sipping coffee in your pyjama. The reality is far from that. Being self-employed means you are on 100% commission. You have to tackle every aspect of your business on a daily basis. You have to be extremely motivated and disciplined to get the result you want. A big mistake many translators make is that they fail to see the big picture. That is – how to break out of the time-for-money business model. While tackling issues such as constantly meeting deadlines, answering calls and replying to inquiries etc. is important, ignoring the most important part of a viable business – developing new clients, finding new projects and creating new services and products is dangerous. Every industry is unique, but there are some tips you can learn from other successful self-employed entrepreneurs: Successful work from home systems tip #11- Working from home doesn’t mean you have to think small It’s good that you can save a bunch when you don’t need to pay rent for an office space. But don’t let small thinking hold you back from playing big. Many businesses that started from a kitchen table or a basement eventually grew to be most successful companies. It’s always important to have a bigger goal for your business. There’s an old Chinese say that goes like this, “if you aim for excellence, you often get an above-average result; but if you aim only for average, you’ll most likely end up failing miserably.” The truth is when you try to find ways to grow your business you will find the way. Having a desire to succeed is the first step. Successful work from home systems tip #22- Know what your target market want No business endeavour will succeed if it fails to meet the need of its target market. Many translators jumped into this business because they believe there’s a large demand for their translation services. Well that maybe true, the scale of the demand has changed significantly over the past few years. The internet, a large selection of translation software and tools and the global economy have put a lot of pressure on the price tag of human translation services. Many even go so far as to predicate that the need for human translations will eventually die in the near future. While I don’t personally believe this is going to happen, I do believe translators need to take a proactive approach to adapt to the changes. If you don’t you may get left behind sooner than you would like to think. Successful work from home systems tip #33- Try to reach out to more audience with the same expertise you have New challenges almost always bring new opportunities. Being a self-employed person means you have the flexibility to change and adjust. That’s the beauty of being small. I believe the future for service providers is to reach out to more audience with your expertise. You can still work one-on-one with the right kind of clients of your choice, but you should never depend on that business model alone to survive financially. There are many ways to reach out to a larger audience. You can write a book, an ebook, start a club, host a teleclass etc. The list goes on and on. You will never know what works for you if you don’t try. They are people out there hungry for your knowledge. You just need to figure out a way to reach them. Successful work from home systems tip#44- Make at least part of your business process repeatable Many translators are so used to take translation work one by one, they never even thought about anything otherwise would be possible. The truth is - any long-term business relies on its repeatable process to make a profit. If you can’t repeat it, your business may not last long. Whether it’s outsourcing work to freelance translators or creating new products to sell to existing clients, you have to find a way to make this possible. Thanks to the internet, the cost of creating a product such as a book or an ebook is very affordable these days. I’ll discuss more about this in my ezine.
