>

Wiki answers list questions and answers under different categories such as languages, business and finances, cars and vehicles, art and entertainment etc.

So how is it relevant to you and your business?

If you have no idea what the benefits are to participate and use Wikianswers, you should seriously consider diving into it. The site simple provides tremendous amount of free information and resources that you can’t afford to miss.

They can be handy for both your business and professional needs. Here are a few tips you can use to take the most out of wiki answers:

1- Finding translation help

If you are stuck on a very technical term, you can choose the language category and then type the term or sentence from the source language and ask for a translation in the target language.

Most likely someone will get back to you with an answer. It may not happen instantly, but if it’s not urgent you’ll likely get what you want. These translations are usually provided by human translators or some people with expertise in the field. You may choose the best one among the few answers provided to fit your need.

I find this resource extremely helpful to solve very technical and specialized terms. Never underestimate the collective wisdom.

2- Promote your business

Every day there are tons of real people posting their questions regarding translation or some subjects you may be familiar with. Don’t be afraid to post your answers. You may even attach your website link or a bio of yourself for visitors to see.

Why miss a free opportunity to promote your business? Your credibility will be built if you provide good answers. It will be even better if you do that consistently over the time.

3- Establish your expert status

Whether you post questions or answer questions on Wiki answers, you can establish your expert status if you follow some these rules:

  • Make sure you read the instructions about rules and regulations first
  • Be specific about your question by providing enough context
  • Don’t be afraid to correct people if their answers are wrong or incomplete
  • When you post an answer, make sure it’s clear and provide as many scenarios as possible
  • Use bullet system if there is more than one point in your answer
  • Don’t be afraid to link people to a website (preferably your own site) for in-depth information if it’s relevant to the question and if that's allowed
  • Always use simple and appropriate language
  • 4- Get updated with the latest marketing tips

Don’t forget there are other categories of questions and answers such as small business marketing and public relation tips. I find many of those questions relevant to the situations of us translators and tons of great answers have been provided as well.

5- Find out what others are looking for
