9 Tips On How To Build A Blog As A Freelance Translator

A blog can help promote your business services. But how to build a blog? Here are a few tips for you:

1-Find a good blog host

You can find many free blog sites, such as blogger.com and wordpress.com .

>

You can also look into any popular general sites in your target or source language.

There are many blog spots under different categories. When used correctly, blog traffic can turn into your potential clients. When you grow your client base, you can move to a broader one.

2- Decide on related and interesting topics

Before you go to the technical part of how to build a blog, you need to know what you are going to write about. That is how to blog.

People who visit blogs are usually looking for particular subjects. Focus on your translation business subject or other areas that may be closely related. If you try to cover too many subjects, you’ll lose sight of your target audience.

3-Have a schedule and stick to it

How to build a blog that reaches out to your target audience? Well, to attract traffic to your blog, you have to blog often and blog consistently.

This could be a huge challenge to many translators. There are already other deadlines to meet on a daily basis. Adding another task to your list can be mind boggling, but consistency builds loyalty.

It establishes a pattern, both with you and your readers. But while you should write often, you don’t have to write a lot. Sometimes a few lines are all you need.

4-Content, content, content

How to build a blog that attracts readers? By providing great content!

We are living in an information overload age where we have only so much time in the day. If we don’t find what interests us, we just click away. It’s that simple.

Writing a blog is not a chore, and it shouldn’t be one. Make each blog post – whether you post daily or once a week -- count. If translation is your passion, show it in your writing and your readers will notice.

5-Lead with an eye-catching headline

When you have a boring headline, your content is at risk of going unread.

Find a few magazines and look at the headlines on their covers. Notice how some catch your attention more readily than others? One way is to use simple statements, like “How-to …” and “8 effecitve ways to …”

But don’t repeat yourself.

6-A good layout is the key

Try to use lists or bullets and leave lots of white space. This makes it easier for readers to scan through articles.

7-Givers get and think to link

Leave comments on other blogs and provide your readers with useful links to other blogs when necessary. But remember to make your comments worth reading. Nothing stops a blog conversation quicker than a meaningless post.

8-Don’t be scared to be controversial

When appropriate, controversial topics drive traffic. Readers expect you to have an opinion on your area of expertise. Don’t be afraid to express it as long as you reason rationally and are ready for a healthy debate.

Controversy sells.

But stay away from argumentative language, libel or vicious content or anything against the law.

9-Write for the joy of communicating with your readers

What are the keys to building a blog that would benefit your translation business? Consistency and commitment.

You may have your own reasons to build a blog. But remember to take it one step at a time. Write often and write well. When you do something you love, other things will follow.
