How To Find Freelance Jobs Online -Translators' Must-Read

Finding freelance jobs online is more promising than ever with easy access to the internet. For talented professional translators, there is no shortage of work.

But before you get online, do not ignore the translation job opportunities just around you.

  • 1-classified ads in the local paper
  • 2-joining a professional network
  • 3-word of mouth referrals

>

I personally prefer word of mouth referrals. It is more likely to give you some assurance of job legitimacy.

People who are referred to you usually are already pre-educated about your service or product. They are ready to buy from you.

You just need to have a system set up for referrals.

While the internet may be easy and quick, it can also lead to many scams. It is also filled with people who are just looking to get something for nothing. Legitimate online jobs do exisit, but you have to learn how to protect yourself.

First of all you need to know where to find freelance jobs online. Not all onlinejobs or prospects are created equal. Here are a few resources you might want to look at to find jobs online:

Some freelance job sites are free, while some charge you an annual fee to bid for jobs. In other cases, a freelance job site might offer both free and paid membership, but free membership usually only provides limited access to their job listings.

You can also look for websites where you can get free advertising for your translation service - such as craiglist-you can also post your profile free.

Joining a network affiliated with your services is always helpful. You should also post a profile on social networks, such as Facebook , Myspace . or LinkedIn.

When you search freelance jobs online, follow these do's and dont's and choose jobs wisely:

DO's

  • Do search established well-known job sites.
  • Do look for listings from recognizable companies that can be readily verified.
  • Sites that offer secure payment options and other protective measures to freelancers can minimize the risk of working with both individuals and lesser-known organizations.

  • Do request a meeting or conference call to discuss the job.
  • Do listen to your gut feelings or instinct if something doesn’t sound right.
  • Do create a contract/agreement for the work.
  • Do ask for a deposit (usually 10%) especially for big projects and clarify the payment schedule beforehand.
  • Do some thorough research on the company or individual who is hiring you.
