You simply can’t put all eggs in one basket as a freelancer - it’s way too risky in today’s economy. And when you struggle financially, your professional performance will be affected. So while it’s important to hone your language horns on a regular basis, it’s always critical to keep your business sense up to date. And that includes how to monetize your passion for translation. One way to do that is through the internet. Money never comes easy. Not unless if you win a lottery. If you’ve been in the language business for a while you know it takes quite a lot of effort and time to build a practice that attracts high paying clients and quality translation jobs. But if you choose the right product to sell, you may make a good profit. Translators may also promote your services in the ebay classifieds section by simply paying a listing fee. When you have control of your own site and it attracts lots of traffic, you can sell to your visitors. But remember this - nobody buys from you because you are online. You have to build trust and credibility among your target audience. When you are able to establish some good reputation, people will buy different levels of services and products from you. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own product to sell. You can always become an affiliate and sell other people’s products and get a commission. But traffic is the king! 3- Selling ad space Depending on the traffic of your website, you may get paid for ad placement on your website. The price for an ad can vary wildly. Google adsense could also be another option for ad income. All of this may sound very simple and easy but I can assure you it is not. Easy online income is only achievable when you have a great amount of traffic. That’s why many online business owners spend tons of money on getting traffic. Not getting enough traffic is the single biggest obstacle for people who try to make money online. Inevitably how to get traffic is also one of the most popular topics in any online business forum. There may not be a simple solution for this, but choosing a winnable niche for your website and having unique content always helps you win the game. So how does all this relate to freelance translators? Well, you can monetize your passion for languages online by either spreading the good word about your services or by repackaging your knowledge and selling to more people. Easy online money may not be so easy in the real world, but generating income from the internet should be seriously considered.
