Is doing translation a good way to earn money online without investment?

Is it easy to find translation jobs online? I don’t have the money to do expensive e commerce training plus I don’t even know if these trainings will produce results.

Can you share some of your tips on how to work online?

ANSWER: Dear Anonymous in Canada,

Thanks for submitting your question. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if making money and earning a living is as easy as taking a breath? I hate to say this, but I’m not aware of any trade or business that would allow you earn money online without investment.

One thing you have to remember though, not all investments can be expressed in monetary terms. Your time commitment should also be considered as an important investment. In fact, time is one of the most precious assets you have in your life.

Yes, you heard me right there - to earn money you either have to invest your money or your time, whether it’s online or offline.By simply moving your translation business online doesn’t give you a magic bullet to instantly pull in all the clients you need to survive.

It only gives you another media to showcase what you’ve got to your potential buyers. You are still responsible for marketing your services and attracting clients.

Unfortunately taking freelance jobs online will not likely bring in serious income for you. If anything, the competition among online businesses is fiercer than that in the traditional brick and mortar business world.

To be able to stand out from the crowd online takes a huge amount of effort. I don’t care how much demand your language combination has, but the truth is - you have to do whatever it takes to succeed. And that may include your monetary investment and your precious time.

Here are a few tips to help you navigate through the online business world:

1- Don’t expect to earn money online without investment

Like I mentioned earlier, your time is also an investment. Many language translators struggle financially because they fail to recognize the value of their time. They insist on getting as much work as possible at any cost.

That often results in short-selling themselves and accepting demanding jobs for peanuts. So they struggle when they don’t have work and they struggle even more when they have lots of work. Talking about a vicious cycle!

So stop throwing away your time. Put a price tag to your time and spend your time wisely.

2- Prepare to do lots of tedious work

The internet has changed enormously. What may have worked 5 years ago may not work today. You have to be prepared to keep up with the trend and ready to test and adjust. There may be people claiming that you can earn money online without investment, but I have yet to see any proof to that claim.

Me for example, while I enjoy writing on my blog, it’s not always fun to do link-building, looking for new keywords etc. But to make sure that my site gets traffic I know I have to do that. Is it boring? You bet! But if that’s what it takes to get ahead then I’ll do it.

Are you prepared to do whatever it takes to reach your goal?

3- Get the help you need

Sometimes it’s hard to admit that you need help, especially when most help requires monetary investment and you are stretched financially already. But what if that investment will bring you results faster and save you time?

Many of us don’t feel comfortable asking for help because it may cost you money. But have you thought about the alternative? You may be stuck forever in the status quo and never be able to get ahead.

I’m so glad that I recognized the need for help and took action. I spent some money and I hired some help from credible sources, but I also got the result I wanted. What more can I say?

Maybe it’s time to switch your thinking – instead of how to earn money online without investment, work on how to invest wisely to make more money.
