Don t Quit - Make Your Next Breakthrough With 5 Strategies
The best advice I’ve been given over the years is – don t quit! Running your own business isn’t always easy. Whether you run your own translation business or simply being self-employed you know what I’m talking about. You love languages and translation and you’ve invested time, effort and money into your little dream – hope to bring some healthy income and live the life you always wanted. You work as hard as you can, but the result just doesn’t justify all the sacrifices you’ve made. Somehow it’s not working as well you would like. You are overwhelmed and frustrated. You start to question your own ability and have doubts about your future. So all you can think of is throw in the towel. But don t quit! You may not be where you want to be right now, but by quitting you are guaranteed to never get there. There’s a good reason why you chose to do what you’re doing now. So before you think of running away from the problem and hiding in your comfort zone, you need to find ways to overcome the obstacles you are faced: 1- Accept the challenge We are all human beings and we all have our breaking point – when nothing seems to go your way; when all your hard work seems to yield little or no results;when you keep feeling the money crunch but your business is not taking off… It’s ok to feel discouraged and frustrated sometimes. Nobody feels motivated all the time. It’s just part of the game. But don t quit! Every problem has a solution - you just need to find it. Odds are you are about to have your breakthrough around the corner if you make a few little adjustments. 2- Redifine your target market If your business has been targeting everyone, it might be time to pick a specific niche. Don’t be afraid to lose clients. Being specialized actually gets you more attention from your clients as now you are an expert on the topic. This is definitely a better way to stand out than to offer low rates. For example, a legal translator or a translator specialized in marketing will most likely be the top choice of a corporate client. So don t quit before you try out this approach. 3- Change the way you deliver your service Think out of the box! You don’t have to work just one-on-one. Your expertise can be offered in many different ways. How about writing an ebook about medical terms or legal terms translation? Or hiring others to do translation work for you? Or teaching others how to translate? Or sell related products to your existing market and clients? These changes don’t have to be drastic. Just take one step at a time. The results can be amazing. Remember, you goal is to leverage your time and break the hour-for-dollar business model. In fact you should brain storm with your friends and happy clients for new ideas on a regular basis. 4- Modify your marketing strategy Many translators or freelancers I know are very modest. They often don’t feel like going out there in a big way. Rather they prefer to wait for others to find them. When that doesn’t work out, they just give up. But don t quit before you create a marketing message that appeals to your target market. You need to use various types of media to convey that message of yours. Don’t just sit behind your computer – get out there and meet people. Just posting an ad here and there on the internet is not a great marketing strategy. Y ou need to talk to your potential clients, get new ideas and use their feedbacks to your advantage. 5- Surround yourself with supporters Motivation is something we all need, but don’t always have. You stand a better chance of staying motivated by surrounding yourself with supporters. They listen, they understand and they give you constructive advice. Just make sure you do the same to others. Having a supportive network is a big part of any successful business venture. Don t quit! You can make it!
