Canada Jobs Online - 5 Tips For Translators To Find Related Jobs

If you live in Canada like I do, you probably have searched for Canada jobs online.

According to a study released by comScore, Canadians spend an average of 44 hours per months online. That number is the biggest among all countries in the world.

Online job searching websites such as Monster.ca and Jobbank.gc.ca do provide lots of resources and helpful tips for job seekers. But if that’s the only tool you use to find a job, you are missing the point.

First of all, regular translator jobs are rare to come by in Canada.

Secondly if they do, you’ll face huge competition. Let alone the fact that many of these jobs offer meager pay and remunerations.

When you look for Canada jobs online, whether you set your eyes on a regular position or free online jobs, you need to follow these rules:

1- Have a positive online presence

There’s hardly anyone I know who doesn’t have any sort of online presence these days. But this can be a double edged sword. The truth is - if your potential employer or client knows nothing about you, you won’t feel comfortable hiring you.

But if they find anything that tarnishes your reputation your chance of getting that dream job may be in jeopardy.

Whether it’s on social media or an online forum, make sure you don’t leave images or remarks that may hinder your credibility or reputation in future. If you don’t want everyone in the world to know, don’t post it.

Blogging is also a way to get known for your expertise. It’s also free. It is one of the most underutilized tools for professional job seekers.

2- Use an online recruiter

When you search for the term “ Canada jobs online ” on Google, don’t forget you can use online recruiters too. Most recruiting companies these days have an online presence of some sort.

They are typically on social media and job searching websites. They are constantly hunting for qualified job seekers to fill the positions required by their clients.

When you work with a recruiter, your job search can be more specifically targeted and therefore you’ll get a more personalized result.

Make sure you work with a recruiter that only gets paid by the employers and does not charge you any upfront fee.

3- Get connected

To make sure you have plenty of exposure to job related information, you need to reach out and get connected with people.

Tell your friends, family or former coworkers about the fact that you are looking for a job. Join professional groups online or offline and share resources with people who are already in the field.

Connect with other professionals and recruiters on social media sites such as LinkedIn and get notified about who’s hiring. You can also get involved in the local community and spread the word out there.

Search for Canada jobs online doesn’t mean you have to stick to the online world.

After all in-person connection still delivers the best result.

4- Watch out for scams

Here are a few signs of an online jobs from home scam –

if you are promised with great pay and little or no work;

if it claims everyone can do it;

if you are not asked any detailed questions about your qualification for the job;

if you are hired without any interview;

if you don’t know who the employer is;

if you get a paycheck that’s more than you asked for ( be careful of fake checks)...

Real Canada jobs online require specific qualification and employers are going to be very cautious about their hiring.

5- Create your own job

If you happen to be a translator in Canada you probably have noticed that regular translator positions are rare to come by. The reality is that most translators and interpreters in this country are working as freelancers.

Don’t get caught up by the idea of simply trading your hours for dollars. If you want to thrive in this business, you have to get creative. There are other ways you can deliver your expertise and knowledge. Read here about passive income opportunities and extra income ideas .
