How To Get The Most Out Of Limited Resources - Advantages Of Time Management

You’ll appreciate the advantages of time management if you often have a long to-do list.

Working from home may sound like a dream to many people, but it also comes with some downsides. For one thing you have to constantly fight off the distractions around the house.

It’s not always easy to resist the urge to squeeze in that extra load of laundry, or to run an errand, or to answer emails and phone calls. Before you know it, a day has slipped by, then a week, then a month… leaving many tasks on your list untouched.

If you have trouble keeping up with your house chores and business tasks, you may want to work on your time management skills. There are many advantages to time management. But here are the most significant 3:

1- It helps you generate more income

Life is short but we are faced with zillions of choices every day. I’m sure there are things you always want to do or would like to do but not necessarily have the time to do. I’m sorry to break this to you, but if you don’t make time to do these things, you may never find the time.

Time management helps you recognize the fact that time is limited. You need to see through the clutter and identify the important things on your list. Make time to do these things if you haven’t done so already.

When you run a business, you need to spend most of your time on the tasks that would bring you money. One of the advantages of time management is to help you focus on these tasks such as marketing, creating service/product, and improving your language skills.

When you get your priorities straight, chances are you are going to attract more clients and generate more income as a result.

2- It helps maintain your sanity

One of the biggest mistakes self-employed people often make is that they expect perfection from themselves. While keeping a spotless house, a happy family and running a thriving business all at the same time is ideal, do not feel like you have to do it all by yourself. If you do, you'll lose your mind sooner or later.

We are all human beings and we all only have 24/7 with no exceptions. You have to decide on which important tasks to take on personally, when you should get help from others and even things you have to put off for another day. One of the advantages of time management is to understand when and how to delegate certain tasks.

Having a business means you need to make investment decisions from time to time. If you never spend money on your business, you have no business. It’s always wise to get help with tasks that you are not familiar with or simply don’t enjoy doing. If money is an issue, you may have to let certain things go… You are not Superman or Wonderwoman! It’s OK to compromise on some less critical items.

3- It helps you focus on your priorities

Everybody seems to be busy these days. Whether it’s family responsibilities, career development, financial pressure or your own physical well-being, we all have tons of things to worry about. But sometimes it pays to realize that you can only do so much. One of the major advantages of time management is to force yourself to pick your priorities.

If spending quality time with family is important to you, then mark certain days off on your calendar and make it a ritual to take vacations with your loved ones every year no matter what.

If getting more clients is your goal, you need to make marketing your top priority. Don’t say you’ll do it whenever you can or try to squeeze in a few marketing tasks here and there during the week.

When you start out, you need to designate at least 2-4 hours per day (I'm serious) sending out a business introduction letter or update letter, following up a lead or going to a networking event. After 6 months or a year, you can ease up a bit on marketing to about 1-2 hours per day. But never ever should you skip your marketing activities.

Advantages of time management are obvious, so let’s try to get the most out of every day.
